Ormsbee's Team Plays In England Over Spring Break

Thirteen members of the Niskayuna Soccer Club (U12) and their families spent spring break in England taking in the sites and sounds of the country and playing the sport they all love. The team walked away with an invaluable experience and memories to last a lifetime, according to Coach Jeff Ormsbee.

“The style of soccer (football) in England is very different than ours in the US, he said. It is much more direct and physical, but by the end of the tour we played a much tougher and quicker game. Everyone improved at heading the ball and tackling with intensity. I was very proud of the efforts the guys gave and the improvements they made in this aspect of the game.”

But the cultural aspects of traveling to a different country were also a huge part of this trip. “The thing I like about this trip is that it gives people an opportunity to actually participate in another culture for a week,” said Ormsbee. “Sports are a great way to make a connection with people in another country. The clubs we played were great about welcoming us and very hospitable after each game.”

In fact, one comment made by an opposing coach really left an impression on Ormsbee. “I liked the talk one of the coaches gave after the game when he said, 'Remember that you play football for your teammates, your parents and your club.'” trip was initiated by Jeff Ormsbee, the Niskayuna High School Varsity Boys Coach, who is also the Niskayuna U12A Boys Soccer Club Coach. He also invited some U14 players to make the trip, as well. This will be the second time Coach Ormsbee has taken a group to England. His first team adventure was in 2004. “April is a great time to go to England for soccer,” said Ormsbee. “All of the leagues and major tournaments are nearing an end so all of the talk is about soccer.”
