Shoot Out

WHAT IS A SHOOT-OUT?!?

If you can  score more penalty kicks than anyone else in your age group, or if you can make more saves, you win

A VERY LARGE TROPHY!!!!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Contest will occur during a break in the middle of your divisions schedule. Shoot-out times will be noted on the schedule you receive as well as at the sign-up table.

Tickets are available at the Shoot-out Table in the pavilion and are priced as follows:

          $1 Each       3 for $2    Arms length $5

Tickets will only be sold at the Shoot-out Table in the refreshment area.  No tickets will be sold on the field.  The more tickets you buy, the better the odds that you will be chosen for the shoot-out.  There is no limit to the number of tickets someone can buy.

----Tickets must be purchased to be eligible to compete----

Strikers:
  • All the players that wish to be a Striker will put their tickets in their teams envelope.
  • Each team will have its own envelope.

Goalies:
  • If you wish to compete as a goalie, you must indicate so when purchasing ticket(s).
  • All goalie tickets from all teams in your division are placed in a separate goalie envelope.

Choosing the Contestants
  • Based on the number of teams in the division, either one or two players from each team will be randomly chosen by a coach or team representative from the team envelope to compete as a striker.
  • Two goalies will be chosen by a referee or Niskayuna Tournament Representative from the goalie envelope.  Then we start the competition...

WHAT ARE THE RULES?

1st Round

  • Each striker will shoot once at each goalie.

  • Each goalie will stay in goal until all entrants have taken one shot on them.  Then the goalies will switch and the strikers will shoot on that goalie.

  • Those strikers who have 2 goals move on to the next round.

  • If only one individual has two goals, they are declared the winner.

  • If no individuals have two goals, individuals with one goal move on to the next round.

  • Goalies are not eliminated and stay in the entire competition.

Successive Rounds

  • Each striker will shoot once at each goalie in a penalty kick situation.

  • Those with two goals move on to next round.

  • If only one individual has two goals, they are declared the winner.

  • If no individuals have two goals, individuals with one goal move on to the next round.

  • The process continues eliminating contestants with less than two goals each round until only one individual has two goals or one individual has one goal and the other individual has none.

  • They are declared the winner.

  • At that point, the Goalie with the least number of goals scored against them wins.

*** Although the ball may only be struck once by the striker, the ball is live off the post or off the goalie until either the goalie has control of the ball, the ball goes out of bounds, or a goal is scored.  Just as in a game situation, the ball must cross the goal line entirely to be considered a goal.  Referee has the final determination on whether a goal is scored or not scored.
